Comic enhancement is about making a comic look better, and possibly improving it's grading, without doing something that would get the comic a "restored" grade.
Comic Pressing & Cleaning
Restoration
Who has experienced the horror of getting a comic back from CGC grading with a purple "restored" grade label ? I certainly have ! The restored grade is worth so much less than an unrestored grade that you can now pay to get your comics unrestored.
Restoration includes, colour touching, trimming and taping. I avoid all these things when enhancing a comic.
Cleaning
Comics get grubby, but they can be cleaned to improve their appearance. The cleaning must be done carefully to avoid damaging the comic. Excessive rubbing with a cleaning device can cause tears, creasing and/or ink removal. Done carefully a once dull cover can come back to life.
Pressing
Comics can be pressed under heat, typically using a T-shirt press, to remove non colour breaking creases and dents from the front and rear cover. Humidifying the comic before pressing will help in removing the faults. Care is required not to cause any new damage. The results can add half a grade, or even s full grade to a comic depending on it's faults. Not all comics are suitable for pressing.
